Time Traveling to Edo
Since it was the nine-hour movie "Shogun" from the eighties that sparked my interest in Japan, I had always wanted to go there—not just to Japan, but to the Edo period. Of course, that is not actually possible. However, there is a place in Nikko that comes quite close: Edomura, or Edo Wonderland, where an entire village has been built in the style of the Edo era.

There is more than just houses. You can meet samurai, merchants, and ninjas, watch theater shows, and even dress up as a historical princess or a ronin, among many other options.

Tempting as it was, I decided not to dress up as a princess or any other historical figure for that matter and spent my money on food instead. The fancy restaurant was fully booked, so I ended up getting a barbecued ebi skewer from a mobile food stall.

After four hours, I left for another attraction around Nikko, which I will tell you about another time.
