Hiking outside of Kyoto

Hiking outside of Kyoto
Water weel at Kibune

Not far from Kyoto I made a small hiking tour from Kibune to Kurama, both of which are connected to the Eizan Railway. The train ride from Kyoto takes about half an our. My JR Rail Pass covered the fare.

For the hiking the passage there is a fee of 500 Yen which is spent for cleaning the mountain and maintaining the hiking path.

Both places are close to each other, but you have to go over a montain, which can be a little bit exausting, but not difficult to do, even if you are untrained.

No idea what theese stone plaques mean and why they are sitting here next to the hiking path.

On the top of the mountain is a shrine called the daemon hall. Close to it is the Kurama temple. I think the hall is actually part of it.

The Dragon Hall
Use the rope to riing the bell, clap your hands twice, then make your wish.
Use one of the ladles to rinse your hands.

It is often recommended to walk from Kurama to Kibune. If you do so you will see the huge Tengu head next to the train station at the beginning of the hike.

I did it the other way round, because Kurama also has an outdoor onsen which I enjoyed to visit after the hike to relax myself. Then I took the train back to Kyoto.
